Subject and characters seemed to be old fashioned, of a class and fitting too many stereotypes for me to really identify and get engaged with the story. Unfortunately I got my head stuck in imagining a BBC 60s voice reading me the story. I did keep reading as I wanted to find out how it ended but felt a bit cheated with a quick and easy solution to enable a more acceptable arrangement. I can see that this was quite a daring book for the early 60s. My key difficulty with the book was the sentence structures as I could not get a ready flow going.
