Wolf Hall

Reviews of Wolf Hall – a unanimous vote for this book – everyone in the group loved it. Perhaps we can best sum this up through Paul’s words – he was unable to be there on the night due to illness and his presence would have enlivened the already enthusiastic discussion. At least we would have discovered the origin of “nithering” which he used to describe his cold!

“I loved Wolf Hall. I was so looking forward tonight to role playing the Tudor court. (We would have liked that too Paul!) (Fear, loathing and lust; so unlike the book club). I heard David Starkey on Sky book prog. Defending Henry VIII, saying he enhanced the status of women by executing his wives (and others) and naming his daughters Mary and Elizabeth to inherit the crown! (All firsts in English history). And Cromwell cops for it a few years later after he arranged an unsatisfactory marriage for the king. So in the words of Wayne Rooney, (soon to be knighted in the Royal Wedding Honours List), I am gutted not to be there this evening.”
